A frustrating afternoon not only saw Royston Town lose in the Southern League Premier Division Central but also lose one of their key players to suspension.

The Crows lost 3-1 at Stamford, although the first half hinted at better fortunes.

They went behind to a Jack Duffy goal but brought themselves level by the break with Demaray Anyadike scoring a good goal.

However, Royston were reduced to 10 men when Adam Murray was given two yellow cards and a further two goals from Duffy, the last five minutes into stoppage time, sealed the Stamford success.

Royston are still just outside the relegation places and host another play-off chasing side on Saturday, AFC Telford United.

The reserves drew 1-1 draw at home to Ampthill Town in Spartan South Midlands League Division One, Jamie Judge on target.

They go to Irchester United on Saturday.

Bowers had taken the lead when a shot from Darcy Drewitt was pushed onto the bar by Tilly Want and Whitney Locke tapped in the rebound.

But the Crows responded quickly when Emma Slater scored an absolute rocket of a goal and they took the lead just before half-time, Slater again after a corner from Tally Miles.

The Royston star then bagged her third hat-trick of the season after a run down the wing and a shot past the keeper.

And they finished it off when another Miles' corner found its way via Jess Morley to Laura Mills.

They host Biggleswade United in the quarter-finals.

They are back in league action on Sunday when they go to Haringey Borough.

Royston Town Vets crashed out the Herts Vets Challenge Cup at home with a 2-1 loss against Hatfield Vets, Chris Briks getting the goal.

The Vets have another cup game in two weeks when they play Bedwell Rangers Athletic.
