There were giant-killers across the second qualifying round in the FA Cup and Royston Town were one who deservedly took their place on that list.

The Southern League Premier Division Central side beat National League South Aveley 2-1 at their Parkside home, coming from behind to do so thanks to goals from Josh Coldicott-Stevens and Adam Murray.

It sets up a third qualifying round at Garden Walk against National League North Peterborough Sports, set to take place on September 24.

For the Crows' boss though, the surprise of winning at Aveley was lessened by the fact he had an inkling of what was to come prior to kick-off.

Watters said: "I had a sneaking suspicion that we'd win, just from seeing the boys in training on Thursday and the way they took on the information specific for this game, and then the vibe in the warm-up and the dressing room.

"We were relaxed and they were laughing and joking in the warm-up but this was a situation where you can tell we believed in ourselves.

"We went a specific way that showed a lot of respect to Aveley and their capabilities, they are no mugs.

"It took 15 minutes to fully commit to what we wanted them to do. The only message we gave them after that was to believe, it was nothing tactical.

"We knew we'd win our fair share in the box and they were outstanding in the second half.

"Every year there are upsets so why couldn't it be us? It's a huge squad effort."

The Crows have two home games now before their Peterborough date, against Banbury United on Saturday and then Hitchin Town on Tuesday.
