The athletes of King James Academy are at it again as they add yet more accolades for the Royston School.
A busy summer saw six titles come back to the Garden Walk school from this year's North Herts District athletics event, held at the Ridlins Track in Stevenage.
With 112 athletes from Years 7 to 10 competing, the school claimed both the girls and combined crowns in the Year 7 group, the Year 8 boys, the Year 9 combined and the overall schools league title.
There were a number of outstanding individual performances, including four school records.
Heidi Coogan broke the Year 8 girls' 300m best and Ben Charter took the honour in the Year 9 boys' shot putt.
Riley Waldock is the new holder of the Year 10 boys' 400m record and arguably the most impressive was Joel Arnold-Pepper who not only broke the school 1500m record, but also the North Herts Championship record too.
Head of PE and school sport Rob Dowler said: "The focus throughout the athletics season is on the pupils enjoying competing and trying to achieve a personal best.
"This includes lessons, athletics extra curricular clubs and inter school competitions.
"If the PB then results in a podium finish, it’s a bonus.
"Another aspect that is always great to see as well is when pupils step up to cover injuries or absences and compete in events where they are out of their comfort zone to help the team.
"This shows great courage and commitment to the team."
King James has also for the fourth consecutive year been awarded the School Games golf mark in recognition of the opportunities on offer at the school, the participation numbers of pupils and their achievements across district, county and national competitions.
During this academic year the school has had 339 pupils represent the school in competition across 10 sports.
This has then resulted in 18 district titles and one English Schools’ national final.
Dowler added: "As the school year has come to an end it’s an opportunity to thank all the parents for supporting their children during their participation in school sport and most importantly a huge well done and thank you to all of the pupils that are so keen to take the opportunities."
