Royston Rockets BMX Club were handed a very late challenge but rose to the occasion magnificently as they took on hosting duties in the Winter Series.

Round one should have taken place at Milton Keynes but rain left that track under water.

Royston were asked if they could accommodate and the volunteer team expertly pulled together all the required components to support the 180 riders in attendance.

It meant the event went smoothly with many of the Rockets showing their strength and knowledge of their home track.

There were regional debuts for Rex Childs and Leo Davies in the U7 group, Jason Salter in the boys' 12 and Ben Deane in the open 13.

In total 37 from Royston took part with Aston Kightly, Zac Childs and Elizabeth Bown gaining first places in their respective categories.

That event was swiftly followed by 30 of the club's riders heading to Ipswich and a challenging track in demanding conditions.

But the Rockets persevered and Kightly kept the top spot in the boys' 11, as did Bown in the women 16-plus.

Oliver Dwyer came second in the cruiser 17-plus and Christina Boukouvalas Loubiere was third in the girls' 11-12 group.
