'Gripping' political drama Hansard is heading to the Attic Theatre in Royston next week.
Following an almost sell-out run in Cambridge to rave reviews, the play is coming to Royston for an exclusive three-day run thanks to an invitation from Limitless Theatre Company.
The play will be performed at the Attic Theatre in Melbourn Street from Thursday, November 28 to Saturday, November 30.
Doors open at 7pm and the performance starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at https://www.limitlessacademyarts.com/the-attic-theatre-whats-on.
Written by playwright Simon Woods, Hansard is described as both a scathing critique of the Thatcher-era Conservative Party and an intimate exposure of a terminally damaged marriage.
The play opens as Tory politician Robin Hesketh has returned home to the idyllic Cotswold house he shares with his wife of 30 years, Diana.
It's 1988, and Robin has been promoting Section 28 of the Local Government Act, which forbade the teaching of 'the acceptability of homosexuality' in schools.
Diana has a stinking hangover, a fox is destroying the garden and, instead of a wife making preparations for his birthday celebrations, Robin is greeted by one intent on confrontation.
As the MP and his left-wing wife spar their way through an acerbic and witty argument, Conservative policies are pulled to pieces and family grudges are trawled over - with no stone left unturned.
Throughout the play, audiences are aware that there is something very personal and significant bubbling below the surface.
The story that is eventually revealed is both personal and tragic.
Geraldine Hindley, who plays Diana, said: "I first saw this play at The National Theatre in 2020 and absolutely fell in love with it.

Hansard debuted at the Lyttleton Theatre in London in September 2019.
