From November 4 to 8, it’s Talk Money Week 2024, and at Citizens Advice North Hertfordshire we're encouraging everyone to break the silence around finances.

This annual initiative aims to spark open, supportive conversations about money, empowering people to make informed decisions and build financial well-being.

In a time of financial uncertainty, discussing money is more important than ever. Research shows that individuals who regularly talk about finances make better decisions, experience reduced stress, and strengthen personal relationships.

By breaking down money taboos, we can collectively foster financial confidence and resilience.

This year’s theme, 'Do One Thing', challenges everyone in North Hertfordshire to take one meaningful step towards financial stability.

Here are a few ideas to get started:

- Reviewing your savings and investment plans

- Setting financial goals with family members

- Using free online budgeting tools

Every small action counts toward improving your financial health, and the sooner we start, the better.

It’s never too early to start talking to children about finances, and building healthy money habits at a young age can set them up for a lifetime of financial confidence.

For Talk Money Week, try these ideas to introduce children to money management in an age-appropriate way:

- Use Pocket Money as a Teaching Tool: Discuss how to budget and save part of their pocket money, helping them understand the value of setting aside funds for bigger goals.

- Involve Kids in Simple Budgeting: When grocery shopping, for example, give them a small budget and help them choose items within that limit, teaching them the basics of spending within means.

- Explain Savings Goals: Encourage them to save for a toy or item they want, which introduces the concept of delayed gratification and financial planning.
