Year 4 pupils from Tannery Drift First School in Royston are celebrating after reaching second place in a maths competition.

Team members Aria, Reuben, Dylan and Cornel worked together to solve challenging maths problems and answer questions at the finals of the HFL (Herts for Learning) Education Annual Mathematics Challenge.

They were competing against teams from around Herts and the UK, as well as some international teams, with other teams competing in year groups from Year 3 to Year 8.

A spokesperson for the school said: "The children’s superb teamwork was rewarded as they made their way through the first round and then saw off strong competition in the finals to secure their second-place spot.

"With over 160 schools competing this was a brilliant achievement."
