Royston Photographic Society is celebrating its members who have achieved success in national competition and accreditations.
Over the summer, the society is profiling three of its photographers - the first of which is Peter Baker.
Peter joined the society four years ago as a rookie to club photography and competitions. He recalls that on his very first evening at a club meeting, established members gave him guidance on printing and framing which he still uses today.
Club nights have continued to give Peter and his fellow photographers opportunities for learning from other members.
Peter's kit is based around a Canon 5D Mark IV camera body with a small range of lenses, mostly purchased second hand, and he said he "hasn't yet been convinced" to move to a mirrorless system.
Most photographers have a favourite genre they focus on, and Peter's priority has become competitions and awards.
While all photographers learn to shoot pictures which please them, competing against their peers with independent judges can validate progress in the photography world and deliver a "competitive excitement".
Peter explained that regular critiques at club nights and from visiting judges have gradually added to his awareness of how to produce increasingly attractive pictures.
Over the past year, Peter has achieved success in the form of photography accreditations - DPAGB (Distinction of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain), BPE1 and BPE2 (British Photographic Exhibitions).
He has also received several awards, including a medal from the prestigious London Salon, awards in East Anglia Federation events and fifth place in the worldwide Amateur Photographer of the Year event.
Some of these achievements have been aided by working with a fellow club member to assess the images strong enough to succeed in various events.

Peter's future goals include the development of a panel of photographs showing movement, which are good enough to attain another award from the Royal Photographic Society.
He said that additional success having pictures accepted to national exhibitions has given him an appetite to earn awards at future events.
Regular club nights will return at 7.45pm on Thursdays at Icknield Walk First School in September.
