Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for South Cambridgeshire Pippa Heylings has been recognised in the first ever national 'power list' of political environmental champions.

The ENDS Report power list is in its third year, with previous names on the list including TV presenter Chris Packham, Professor Partha Dasgupta from Cambridge University and Craig Bennet, the chief executive at the Wildlife Trusts.

This is the first year a separate list of 50 influential politicians has been published.

Pippa was included in the list for her commitment to environmental causes, running her own business bringing community voices into decision-making and advising governments on climate and environmental issues.

She was also involved in the creation of the Galapagos Islands Marine Reserve and has spoken at UN climate and nature summits about the future of the planet and the rights of local communities.

In South Cambs Pippa has also served as the chair of the council's climate committee.

She said: "It is such an honour to be included on the UK’s first ever Environmental Power List to recognise the contributions of politicians to environmental causes.

"There are only 50 politicians named on that list and I am humbled to be named alongside some really influential game changers.

"We are facing many environmental threats, from climate change to nature loss, so the next few years are crucial.

"Many of us are very worried about the current government’s rowing back on our climate pledges.

"I hope to continue to be a strong voice for the environment from inside Parliament after the election later this year."

Other politicians included on the list are London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Green MP Caroline Lucas and COP 26 President and MP Alok Sharma.
