This year's Royston May Fayre has been hailed as a "fabulous" event despite the rainy weather.

The fayre took place on Monday, May 6 at Priory Memorial Gardens, with fun activities on offer for all the family.

Stalls were run by a host of community organisations, selling plants, cakes, non-alcoholic cocktails and more. Scouts provided hot dogs and pancakes while Guides sold fruit crumble.

Visitors could enjoy the tombola, soft archery and take a ride in the miniature railway.

Entertainment was provided by the Royston Town Band and Royston Radio, along with the popular Novelty Dog Show.

Children were entertained by Professor Crump and Punch and Judy, and had a chance to try circus skills or get their faces painted for free.

The historic car show was held alongside the fayre, in the Town Hall car park.

Attendees at the event included outgoing Royston Mayor Cllr Lisa Adams, and town crier Graham Pfaff.

Mayor Adams awarded her vote for 'best turned out vehicle' at the historic car show to James Quinn from Royston, for his 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Mk 111 GT.

Terry Cooper was named winner of the mayor's vote for 'best classic bike', for his 1965 250cc Ariel Arrow, which he restored six years ago. This was his second year winning the coveted prize.

Meanwhile the Rotary Prize for the best bike was awarded to Ken Stratton for his Triumph T100SS from 1962.

The fayre makes efforts to be sustainable, with reusable cups available at £1 each.

A Royston Town Council spokesperson said: "Another fabulous May Fayre!

"The weather was not kind to us but it failed to curtail all the fun and enjoyment.
