North Herts Council has added the charge points to its main office building in Letchworth, to accommodate more Electric Vehicles (EVs).

This increases the capacity to charge 12 council vehicles simultaneously.

North Herts Council's fleet includes vehicles for Herts Careline and the waste management team, as well as ultra-low emission vehicles for the parking and environmental enforcement teams.

Ian Couper, service director for resources, said: “The new charge points form part of our work to reduce carbon emissions to fight climate change and improve air quality for local residents.”

The public can also recharge their EVs at a number of long-stay car parks in the district.

The council, which declared a climate emergency in May 2019, aims to achieve carbon neutrality for its operations by 2030 and a net-zero carbon district by 2040.
