The festivities were funded by Royston First BID members, and was made possible with the support of several local businesses and organisations.

Throughout the evening, the crowd was entertained by performances from Royston singer Tom Huttlestone, the team at Royston Leisure Centre and students from Limitless Academy.

"We extend our sincere thanks to Dysons for their sponsorship, Abbot Travel for powering the event, the amazing performers on stage, our ‘local hero’ Andy McFadyen, for pressing the button and the entire Cambridge Star Radio team, especially host Josh Lovett, for their invaluable contributions in making the Christmas lights switch-on a resounding success.

"Most importantly, this event was primarily funded by the BID.

"Without it, the event would not continue to run and we hope businesses have showed their support, by backing the BID and voting 'yes' to the renewal this November."

Results of the business community's ballot to renew the BID for another five-year term will be announced on Friday, December 1, with the vote closing on November 30.
