Royston Environmental Group hosted a plastic-free picnic to mark the start of Plastic Free July.
The picnic, which was the first local event of its kind, took place on Sunday, July 2 on a leafy copse overlooking Therfield Heath.
Families and individuals who took part were told to avoid single-use plastics, while reusable containers and active travel such as walking and cycling were encouraged.
The group sat on blankets and shared food recipes information about places to buy non-plastic wrapped groceries.

Children also took part in a scavenger hunt to identify flowers, birds and insects that live on the heath.
Royston Environmental Group hopes this will become an annual event as part of efforts to gain that status of 'plastic-free Royston'.
