Royston is marking the Coronation of King Charles III with a celebratory day on Sunday, May 7.

The celebration, organised by Royston First BID, will take place in Priory Memorial Gardens from midday to 4pm.

Royston First is collaborating with Street Food Heroes to provide 11 food vendors on the day, with options including paella, pulled meats, hot dogs, Indian, Malaysian, Thai, South African, jerk chicken, meaty skewers, sweet waffles, ice cream, a bar and a café.

Entertainment will be provided with live music from jazz and vintage singer Miss Jones, country singer-songwriter Georgia Nevada, and  the Royston Town Band.

Other attractions include bouncy castles, a slide and soft play, as well as fairground rides, face painting, hair braiding and glitter tattoos.

Crew members from Royston Fire Station will be there to showcase one of their fire engines.

Mayor of Royston Cllr Mary Antony will announce the winner of the 'Best Dressed Coronation Window' competition.

Businesses have been invited to create patriotic displays in their shop windows to celebrate King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort. All windows must be up by Friday, May 5.

The winning business will receive an advertisement in The Listing Magazine and a £50 voucher to spend in the town.

Other events are taking place around the town over the weekend to celebrate the Coronation.

Children can take part in craft activities at Royston Library on Saturday, May 6. The Coronation will be shown on the public computers, and children can help complete a royal jigsaw puzzle and look at the library's 'Coronations and Celebrations' display.

Anyone with photos from previous royal celebrations is invited to bring them to the library, where they will be photocopied and added to the display.

Royston Fire Station is also celebrating Coronation Day on Saturday, May 6.

Everyone is welcome to visit the station from 10am to 2pm - where the Coronation will be aired on a big screen.

Visitors can meet the fire investigation dogs, play games, buy refreshments and enter the raffle to raise funds for East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Limitless Academy will host an indoor event on Sunday, May 7.

Two 'Showtime' theatre performances, featuring musical theatre songs, will be running in the Attic Theatre at 2.30pm and 5.30pm.

Tickets will be available on the door and at https://www.limitlessacademyarts.com/ prior to the day.

Visitors can enjoy afternoon tea in an old English tearoom, where there will be hot drinks and sweet treats such as scones and cakes.

There will be a playroom for children, with activities including crown-making, a colouring station, face painting and a magic workshop.

Tickets cost £6 for adults, including a hot drink, scone and theatre access, £3 for children, including theatre access, a sweet treat and juice, and £6 for child premium - which includes all of the above plus a two-hour slot in the playroom.

Family tickets are £15 for two adults and two children.

Finally, a free craft fair will take place on Sunday, May 7 in Market Hill Rooms, from 10am to 2pm.
