The Friends of Therfield Heath and Greens celebrated the planting of new trees on the heath as part of the Queen's Green Canopy project.
On Saturday, January 14, the Friends were joined by Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Richard Beazley, Conservators of Therfield Heath Clive Hall and Nick Keep, heath ranger Catherine Wright and a team from Shire Tree Services, who planted the trees without charge.
Four trees were planted in the paddock behind the café to honour the Queen's memory - two hornbeams and an elm which were bought by the Friends of Therfield Heath, and a silver birch which was donated by a Royston resident.
Janet Rossignol-Bubbins, previous Friends chair and committee member, and treasurer Ray Munden were thanked for their project coordination.
