The Conservative MPs for North East Herts and South Cambs have responded to the news that Rishi Sunak has been made leader of the Conservative Party, and will be the next Prime Minister.
North East Herts MP Sir Oliver Heald said: "I supported Rishi Sunak in the contest and am pleased he has been elected with overwhelming support from MPs. He is experienced, has good judgement and will lead the country well.
"He unites Conservatives, but the real job ahead is to help the country through difficult economic times and to complete our Manifesto pledges.”
Anthony Browne, MP for South Cambs said: "There was only one candidate that could earn the trust of the public and restore market confidence. I am glad to welcome Rishi Sunak as our next Prime Minister.
"Rishi clearly has the support of the vast majority of his colleagues. Moreover, he has the support of residents - South Cambs told me they found him honest, competent, best able to represent us on the world stage, and in the best position to manage the economy. Many, many MPs agree.
"I look forward to seeing the Rishi put together his team. He needs to use our reserve of talent and appoint credible, experienced Ministers with a proven record of getting things done.
"I’ll be working with him to bring the kind of cool, calm, competent government our country needs and deserves."
