The president of Royston Rotary Club is back home safe and uninjured after members of the Taliban in Afghanistan attacked a foreign tourist minibus she was travelling in.
Karin Weston was one of eight British tourists on board the minibus carrying 12 foreigners, which was ambushed by Taliban fighters on Thursday.
There were reportedly seven people wounded on the bus travelling through the Chesht-e Sharif district in the western Herat province when the Taliban opened fire – including the Afghan driver.
A spokesman for Royston Rotary Club confirmed that Karin has now returned home and she is ‘uninjured’.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are providing assistance to British nationals involved in the attack in Herat and are co-ordinating closely with local authorities.”
Afghan security forces rescued the foreigners, and it is thought that no one was seriously hurt in the attack.
