After a member of public raised the alarm about people flagging them down on the A505 near Flint Cross asking for money in exchange for gold on Friday, police went on the hunt for the suspects.
Four arrests were made, and two of the males were subsequently charged with possession of an article for use in fraud and appeared before Cambridge magistrates on Saturday.
The two males charged were Gheorghe Miclescy, 36 and Flavius Miclescu, 46, both of Grantham Road, Bradford.
The pair pleaded guilty and were subsequently fined £335 each.
Cambridgeshire police urge members of the public to call them on 101 if they see this activity occurring.
A police spokeswoman said: “Often people are flagged down and asked for cash to buy fuel in exchange for some fake gold or jewellery.”
