Royston Photographic Society completed its last competition of 2022, entitled 'Scapes' - with photographers submitting land, sea and cityscapes.

First place went to Peter Baker for a picture taken at Dovercourt. Peter used a long exposure to flatten the water and leave the two simple structures standing without any distractions.

In second place, David Waters captured London and HMS Belfast with a daytime shot under a moody sky, while Peter Baker was featured again in third place for his shot of the city at dawn, under the first rays of the sun.

The competition was judged by David Steel from Cambridge, who is a trainer of camera club judges.

Following a short break for Christmas, the club's next season begins on January 5, with club members receiving a presentation from Royston Museum's archivist on archive photography and how pictures taken today can be useful to social history students of the future.

January's competition will have an open format, so everyone can show their best pictures.

The society's landscape group will also be out and about, following a recent outing to Wandlebury.

Anyone who would like to experience a club night or take part in the society's activities should contact Andrew Gillborn on andrew.gillborn@btopenworld.com.
