A new bus service between Royston and Cambridge is launching at the end of this month.

Centrebus, working in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council, offered to take over the route following the cancellation of the 915, which was operated by Stagecoach.

The new service 26 will launch on Monday, October 31, and will run from Monday to Saturday, calling at Trumpington Park and Ride, Foxton Memorial, Fowlmere and Melbourn.

Service 26 departs from Royston bus station at 7.16am, 9.26am, 11.26am, 1.26pm, 3.26pm and 5.26pm.

It will return from Cambridge Drummer Street bus station at 8.30am, 10.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

Mick Rossiter, area operations manager for Centrebus, said: “We are really pleased to have been successful with our bid to provide local bus service 26 which offers a lifeline to bus users between Cambridge and Royston.”

The cancellation of the 915 service led to backlash from residents, who were concerned that it would isolate residents who have no other means of getting between Royston and Cambridge - particularly patients attending Addenbrooke's Hospital.

North East Herts MP Sir Oliver Heald and Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Nik Johnson, were among those who objected to the discontinuation of the service.
